In line with the continuing support for sports development among today’s youth, Foundation University is set to host the National University Games (UNIGAMES) once again by 2019.
By 2019, Foundation University will host the UNIGAMES, for the fourth time. In retrospect, FU has hosted the said national competition in 2000, 2002 and the latest, 2008. Foundation University garnered the highest number of awards among the partipating schools from the Visayas in 2010.
Foundation University has become the sole partner university since the UNIGAMES took its permanent residence in Dumaguete City. Through the participation of staff members at the Institute of Youth Sports for Peace – the University’s sports development arm and by providing game venues, FU has shown its support as the only partner academic institution of the annual national sports tourney among colleges and universities.
College and universities from all over the country are set to compete in different disciplines namely: Sepak Takraw, Taekwondo, Basketball, Chess, Football, Lawn Tennis, Table Tennis, Athletics, Badminton, Swimming, Volleyball and Beach Volleyball.
The City of Dumaguete and the Province of Negros Oriental will once again work with FU for the 2019 UNIGAMES, Inc. along with the guidance and leading of the Philippine Sports Commission.
UNIGAMES is the only national sports competition that involves tertiary level institutions from all parts of the country. Since its inception in 1996 at the University of St. La Salle in Bacolod City, it aims to bring together the collegiate varsity teams not just to compete but to foster camaraderie and fellowship among athletes, team managers, coaches and sports enthusiasts.
